Its important to have a good storyline in a game a
designer can enhance a players experience massively by creating
a good storyline.
Game designers start to enhance a
player’s gameplay before the player even starts to control the character, they
gain the interest of the player by telling them the story, which would interest
the player and let them know what to expect. Through out the game the designer
will start introducing more characters to mix things up and keep
things interesting but most commonly the
main character will be set from the start and you will stick with
them through the hole game often following with them on there journey.
Most games now give the option
for you to customise your characters to suit your play style this is
most commonly seen in MMO's and RPG games.
Another
thing that enhances the players experience is the location
or environment your games set in some of the best environments
can be seen in MMO's and RPG games which is why I think people find them
so appealing in MMO's its not just one map that you play over and
over again which you will see in first person shooters its a hole world and
some can take hours and hours to walk across.
The deeper a storyline goes the
more engrossed a player yet's. Most game company's see this as a
good thing because it means people are enjoying their game and want to carry on
playing it. But many game company's now a days see this as a problem
because people are complaining there children are becoming addicted to there
games and are sometimes not leaving the house for weeks on end.
It’s now easily proven the importance
of a good story lines when you look back at games that are sold just because of
there fantastic story lines like halo and metal gear solid. People still wait
outside of the shops before the game is released so they can get the game first
and be the first to find out what happens next in the sequels. The story lines
of these games are so deep they are now talking about making these two games
into films.
In
Naruto Shippuden ultimate ninja storm generations text and cutscenes
are used as a form of storytelling . this makes it easier to understand
the story so the player will understand what is happening and the
cutscenes makes the players understand the characters emotions more and
this will enhance there gameplay experience.
there are many game genres like First Person Shooter (FPS), Sports, RPG, Racing and more.
the
genre for Naruto is fighting which the aim is to defeat the opponent
which enhances the story as the more opponents defeated the further the
story progresses.
in
most games the developers use location, conditions, actions and
three-act structure to make the story more interesting which will
enhance the players gameplay experience. for example in fable the
three-act structure is used really well and greatly enhances the players
gameplay experience. also locations have been used well as in different
locations different options become available and the locations change
depending on the players choices in the game.
Also in fable emotional themes are used as the main character is trying
to get revenge for his family so there is anger and sad emotions but
also some happy emotions when the story advances. the game uses
interactivity with triggered events and cutscenes.
game designers make games with a interactive story to make it more
interesting for the players for example Skyrim has a interactive story
with character customisation, triggered events, choices and player
control. this enhances the players gameplay experiences as they can
decided parts of the story which gets them more involved and with
character customisation the player will have a character they like.
